Little Black Heels

I am tall - I've always been the tallest of my friends, my family (until my younger sister passed me a couple years ago)and one of the tallest of my classmates, especially in elementary and middle school.

Being 5'9" can be a good thing - I can reach things on the top shelves at stores and get stuff down for my friends, I have long arms to reach in behind hard to fit places and overall its an alright deal.

However I never wanted to be taller than I already was - no matter how good heels could make my legs look I didn't want to wear them, especially since I was taller than most of the girls and a good chunk of the guys as it was. So no cute heels for prom, only buy jean brands that came in Longs, though preferably I need Extra Longs (which are only sold by brands that cost 75 dollars minimum - so I wear longs) and when prom dress shopping I had to be careful because some of the "long" dresses were too short and wouldn't fall where they were supposed to. So in the end I never really owned heels, my height and my clothes wouldn't allow it.

I would like to add that my sister KayKay is a real inspiration to me because she loves heels and doesn't care that she is tall instead she owns it and makes it look good. A lesson that I have just recently learned...

That is right I am here to tell you that at 19 years old I have found a pair of high heels that I love, I can move in them, they are beautiful and even though they add a good 3 to 4 inches I feel great. I almost didn't get them but when I asked my friend Megan if they made me too tall, her mom who was with us said "Never worry about being too tall." and that was it for me. I am officially over my hesitancy towards heels. If only I had listened to my sister these past two years I may not had had this problem.

I needed these heels for my FFA uniform this upcoming weekend to receive my American Degree at the FFA National Convention - that's right I am going to walk in those heels across stage in front of a ton of people from across the country and feel great - even if I trip. Now why I realize that not feeling comfortable in heels is a petty fear and that overcoming it is not really a big deal I feel as if it is going to lead to a lot more changes and has raised my confidence to a new level. And isn't that what growing up is about, realizing those things that made you self-concise in High School don't really matter and that you were just being silly? Well if it is then I must say I am getting more grown up every day.

Some people talk about finding the perfect little black dress, but I talk about finding my perfect little black heels.

Homesickness - One College Girl's Perspective

Being in my second year of college I have come to understand a few things about homesickness, and while I am not an expert on the case I do know some facts that one can only learn from experience.

Fact number one:
I can always tell when it is about fall break time, not by looking at a calender or from an announcement but because about a week beforehand I get extremely homesick. I get sad and antsy. I don't want to do anything,, except go home. Lucky for me I am able to fly home on Fall Break, I don't know what I would do if I couldn't and I don't think I ever want to find out. I like to think that I would be fine, cowgirl up and just wait it out and enjoy life why I'm here, and I probably would but not before some tears and thoughts of how I wanted to see my friends and family and doubting every decision I had ever made since high school. However that leads me into my second fact...

Fact number two:
It is okay to cry and doubt every decision you've made since high school every once in a while... it can make you feel a lot better. I'm not saying to dwell on it and let it stay with you. But if you have one day where you just can't fight it get it out and the next day won't seem so bad.

Fact number three:
Homesickness is different for everyone. Some people cry the first couple days, some people are excited the first couple days and then get homesick later, some people feel both some people just get randomly homesick at different times. It really depends on the person and what they're feeling. Also if they're missing some event back home like a younger sister's greenhand banquet or senior picture photo shoot it can also trigger some feeling of homesickness.

Fact number four:
Distance doesn't matter if you're 19 minutes away or 19 hours you are probably going to miss home. Yes 19 minutes away is an easier visiting distance but things are still different, you're still not living at HOME. Which is the whole idea of homesickness, not living at home.

Fact number five:
Homesickness is not a reflection on you. To me my being homesick says nothing about me but about my family and friends. I am in a new place trying new things and going somewhere with my life. But my family and friends are so great that my heart and home will never truly stray. They have touched me so much that no matter where I go in the world there will always come a time when my love for traveling and the marvels of a place will not out weigh the love I have for them. No matter where I go I will always return home.

Emma

Obviously I have been negligent in my blog duties... this happens... a lot... with almost everything I do or start, but I always end up getting there. However we can talk about my commitment issues and faults later right now I would rather talk about Emma, an amazing book written by the one and only Jane Austen. Emma is my favorite book, while I love almost every book I've read Emma is my absolute favorite. And as has been my fashion over my last... three posts... well 2/3 posts I am going to quote some of my favorite sayings from Emma.

A few sentiments on luck and love:

"And have you never known the pleasure and triumph of a lucky guess? I pity you. I thought you cleverer; for depend upon it, a lucky guess is never merely luck."

"... but that I suppose there may be a hundred different ways of being in love."

"I am quite enough in love. I should be sorry to be more."

Now while the last may seem a bit cold if you knew what part of the story it was from you would understand and completely admire what was said and the way it was said. Anyways if I were to quote the anything from the end of the book it would be hard not to put whole paragraphs or pages up, sometimes its not the words that make the quote but the words around the quote that give it its meaning.

Well that is all for now - I promise to try and stay on top of this... key word TRY :)

Oh math homework... how I didn't miss you

Unfortunately i have math homework and I really really really realllllllly don't want to do it. However I am a college student now and if I don't do my parents and I lose lots of money and I possibly die. So in that case I am going to do my math homework and not procrastinate... and no this is not a form of procrastination because... its not. Its very productive and alright so this is procrastination.

So I will probably write again after I finish my homework, seeing how I have all weekend. :)

A Few Lines to Live Life By

Okay so my laziness has won me over once again and so I have decided to write a blog where the main subject has already been written by someone else. However these are no ordinary lines they are lines from one of the wisest smartest men on earth Gilligan off of the most life altering show Gilligan's Island. Here we go...

Skipper: You don't know anything about space.
Gilligan: I do know one thing. You take up more of it than I do.

Gilligan: Hiya, Professor. What are you doing?
Professor: I'm making notes for a book. It's to be a chronicle of our adventures on the island... I think it's a book people will want to buy, don't you?
Gilligan: Sure, I'll buy one. I'm dying to find out what happens to us.

Gilligan: Skipper, are you asleep?
Skipper: [sarcastically] Yes.
Gilligan: Oh, well when you wake up will you tell me if you've seen my rabbit's foot?

Oh Gilligan how wise you are, you're a role model to us all. :)

My Dictionary

I bought a new dictionary for college and am very proud of it so for lack of will my first blog will be me turning to a random page and finding a word! yeah! okay here we go... and our word is Gormandize which means to eat ravenously... the word in the definition is as long as the word it describes... i find this interesting. Oh well now we all know the word gormandize is a smart way to tell someone they are eating like they are under assault and starving. :)
